“HD Radio,” 91.3
The Summit, and You: What’s going on here?
“HD Radio,” simply,
is the digital future of radio. Radio technology has
not changed significantly in almost 50 years. Think about
everything else electronic in your world, and, all the
technological evolutions and revolutions you have witnessed
in your lifetime.
HD Radio is the first significant
upgrade to radio broadcasting since FM stereo technology
was developed in the early 1960’s. Now, WAPS 91.3
The Summit will soon “go HD.”
HD Radio is not to be feared.
Unlike HD TV, or, the latest upgrade for your computer,
HD radio is an option. Nothing becomes obsolete. If you
don’t want to buy a new HD Radio, your old radio
will continue to receive your favorite stations without
change or charge.
Invest in a new HD Radio for
your home, workplace or car, and, you will move to the
future of radio. HD-FM will sound like a CD. On-screen
graphics will provide artist and title info, along with
information updates. And unlike satellite radio, no monthly
subscription fees!
Best of all, every HD FM station
has the option to launch a second radio station, piggybacked
on the main HD FM signal. That’s what we have planned
here at 91.3 The Summit: We call it our “Summit
Flashbacks” channel.
By popular demand, our “Summit
Flashbacks” music channel will pay homage to our
80’s Alternative/Modern Rock roots, a music style
that we launched on the original WAPS 89.1 FM way back
in 1987. We still own Northeast Ohio’s biggest
and best Alt-rock musical archive, and, we’re going
to dust it off and give it a workout 24-7 on our new
HD-2 channel, “Summit Flashbacks.” And, of
course, we’ll bring it to you with zero commercials.
With an HD Radio, you’ll
be able to switch back & forth between our regular
91.The Summit broadcasts on “HD-1” and 91.3 “Summit
Flashbacks” on “HD-2” at the touch
of a button.
We can’t make promises
as to an exact date when our new “HD Radio” services
will launch, but we’re targeting completion in
late April of this year. With every passing day, we are
closer to debuting our new “HD Radio” digital
signal and “Summit Flashbacks.”
Our new HD antenna will offer
improved reception for all Summit listeners on all your
FM radios in your home, workplace, and car…and
CD-quality digital “HD” audio when you invest
in a new “HD Radio.” Find out more about
all the HD radios at www.hdradio.com.
Locally owned, commercial-free, listener-supported public radio on WAPS
91.3
The Summit: Soon in CD-quality “HD” sound, quickly followed
by a whole new radio station of 1977 to 1992-era Alternative Rock on
our new “Summit Flashbacks” channel.
